END-OF-SUMMER UPDATE: A Personal Note from Amy Courts
Hello again, Friends!
As many of you probably know or have heard, it's been a HUGE summer for me! Not only did I release a
brand new album, These Cold and Rusted Lungs on July 29, 2008, I also spent the weeks leading up to it at some pretty amazing sporting events!
In late June and early July, I performed the National Anthem for Major League Baseball's Kansas City Royals and Atlanta Braves, and spent an awesome Fourth of July celebrating (and singing the Anthem) at Atlanta Motor Speedway's Friday Night Drags! Then, in late July I was invited to perform the National Anthem AND four of my originals in a pre-game acoustic set on the field (for 25,000 fans!!!!!) at a Chicago White Sox game at the U.S. Cellular Field!
What could possibly make that better? I'll tell you: passing by the White Sox's dugout on my way to an interview regarding the new record AND my involvement with Mocha Club, three of the Sox (including one particularly great player named Swisher) whooped, hollered, and asked to shake my hand. Yes,
they wanted to shake
my hand. Isn't it usually the opposite? Well, it is for me anyway, so it's official: I experienced my first moment of true celebrity.
We followed that week in Chicago with the release of the CD on Tuesday and an INCREDIBLE release show on Sunday night, August 3 at The Rutledge in Nashville, where we saw every seat filled (and then some), raised hundreds of dollars for Mocha Club, and generally had a very killer time.
Speaking of which, VIDEOS FROM THE SHOW ARE NOW POSTED ON YOUTUBE!! So go
check them out and leave your comments on each of the live videos! And stop by often, as we're adding more videos (some coming from that White Sox performance!!) all the time.
To top it all off, my friends over at CRW Platinum Gold Radio Promotions just released the single "SHIVER" to radio as a follow-up to early summer's "THE LIARS," and it's ALREADY AT #5 on the Rock Charts (after just ONE WEEK!). So call your local station and pester them to add "Shiver" AND "The Liars" into their daily rotations until they do it, and keep me moving up the charts!
OH! And we just got another GREAT review in for
These Cold and Rusted Lungs, posted today by CCM magazine online, in which the new album was called a "brilliant honest debut" and I was called "a female Derek Webb." Woo hoo! You can read the
full review here, AND MORE reviews at www.myspace.com/amycourts, or by visiting the links below!
As always, you can stay posted with more personal messages at
My Mysapce, where we're always posting new photos, new blogs, and engaging in new fun. You can also become a fan at
iLike.com and on
Facebook.
For right now, keep your eyes peeled for news regarding a cosmetics endorsement (yippee!) and my COLD AND RUSTED LUNGS TOUR this fall! And, by the way, if you want to bring me to your city, shoot us an email at booking@amycourts.com with your favorite venue and we'll be sure to get in touch and do our best to stop there!
Till then,
Peace Love & the Other Seven,

We're already equipping Africans to rebuild their world and culture from the inside out...with just $7 a month from people just like you and me.

AMY COURTS TO DONATE 10% OF ALL ARTIST PROCEEDS FROM HER NEW ALBUM TO AFRICAN AID ORGANIZATION THE MOCHA CLUB
(NASHVILLE, TN) July 11, 2008 --Amy Courts’ passionate message and unflinching honesty not only ring true through her music but also play out in her life. With the release of her highly anticipated sophomore album
These Cold And Rusted Lungs, which releases on July 29th, Courts will donate 10% of all artist proceeds to the African aid organization the Mocha Club. Specifically, the donation will go towards the development the "Village of Hope" in Gulu Uganda, where nearly 500 "child mothers" can live in a safe community with shelter, a job training center, a medical facility, and a school for their children. These young women are called "child mothers" because they were only children themselves when they were abducted, trained as fighters, and given as sex slaves to rebel soldiers in the LRA, a rebel paramilitary group in Northern Uganda.
“With the rapid increase in poverty, disease, abuse, and continued civil unrest in the developing countries of Africa, I've become increasingly aware of our responsibility to act on what we know, ”shares Courts.“ I believe the challenge to those with means is to aid those without, not out of benevolence or sacrifice, or because it's trendy to do so, but because it is our God-given responsibility as humans to care for those in need. As an artist with a voice and an audience, my personal responsibility widens from singing songs to inciting help for the fatherless, widow, and impoverished, lest my gift be wasted on vanity.”
Courts’ involvement with the Mocha Club began during the summer of 2007 after participating in an event that raised awareness of the reality in Africa. “I then began searching for an organization that
would be able to use my voice - since, as an artist, I have a responsibility to do more than sing songs, but to speak for those who have no voice - to bring about change,” said Courts. “I chose Mocha Club because, by asking for just $7/month and relating it to something we all understand - the need for coffee! - they make change a real possibility. It doesn't take $30, $40, or $50 a month to make a REAL difference.”
"We have been thankful for Amy’s involvement with the Mocha Club,” said Missy Zahn, Artist Relationship Director for Mocha Club. “She is using her platform to speak for those who cannot speak for themselves. Because of artists like Amy who are passionate about helping Africa, we are able to feed and educate children, provide clean water, and lay a foundation of hope for a brighter future."
The Mocha Club is an organization that centers around connecting our community with the African community. For the small cost of $7 a month, equivalent to the cost of two mochas, a member can help support a project in Africa. $7 in Africa can one person for a month, educate two children for one school term, save one person’s life from malaria, and provide clean water to seven Africans for
one year. The organization has several ongoing projects around Africa which enables donors to decide what their money will go towards. For more information on The Mocha Club and how to get
involved, please visit www.mochaclub.org.
Produced by Neilson Hubbard (Garrison Starr, Matthew Ryan Matthew Perryman Jones)
These Cold And Rusted Lungs ably takes on love, heartache, personal demons, and the concept of a Holy but
still personal God. Though undeniably heavy and occasionally dark, the recordʼs message is ultimately one of abandoned hope. For those in the midst of the constant struggle to die to self so love and faith can survive, comfort comes in knowing ʻthese cold and rusted lungsʼ weary from waves of lies can always be made to breathe; and a heart made plastic by past rejection and love lost can always be made real.
